State inspectors visited 133 West Palm Beach food businesses Oct. 1-30; 87 needed no further action. A Broadway pizza shop fixed an emergency order in a day.

State inspectors visited 133 restaurants, hotel kitchens, caterers, food trucks and other food businesses with a West Palm Beach address between Oct. 1 and Oct. 30. At 87 of them, the latest visit needed no further action.

Twenty-eight first visits found no violations of any kind. One pizza shop on Broadway had an emergency order recommended, then passed a callback inspection the next day.

The figures come from the food service inspection file for District 2, which covers Palm Beach County. The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s Division of Hotels and Restaurants publishes it. The copy we used was downloaded Oct. 31, and it lists inspections through Oct. 30.

Florida does not score or grade restaurants. Each visit records a count of violations and an outcome. The state file sorts businesses by mailing city. A West Palm Beach mailing address covers a large unincorporated area west of the city, so many of these places are outside the city limits.

October in numbers

The file holds 152 inspections at 133 establishments with a West Palm Beach address in October. The file records a callback under the same type as the visit it follows:

  • 124 were routine inspections or their callbacks.
  • 21 were complaint inspections or their callbacks.
  • Seven were licensing inspections of new or changed businesses.

On first visits, the inspector recorded no high-priority violation at 50 of 122. First visits recorded a median of three violations of any kind.

The emergency order

An inspector visited Broadway Pizza & Subs, 4013 Broadway, Suite B, on a routine inspection Oct. 22. The state recorded seven violations, six of them high priority, and the outcome “emergency order recommended.”

An emergency order closes a business or suspends its license until an inspection finds the violations corrected. An inspector returned Oct. 23 and recorded “emergency order callback complied,” with no violations.

“Recommended” means the inspector recommended it. Any penalty comes later through the division’s own process, and the business can contest it. A warning means the inspector set a deadline to fix the violations and will return.

Every business named here can give its side. If one does, we will add its response.

What it means for you

An inspection records what one inspector found on one visit. It is not a rating of the food, and a business with an open result may already have fixed the problem.
