The Julie & Mike Connors Boys & Girls Club opened at 1150 Southern Blvd. for ages 6 to 18, with a teen career center. Membership is $30 a school year.

West Palm Beach has a new Boys & Girls Club. The Julie & Mike Connors Boys & Girls Club, at 1150 Southern Blvd. on the north edge of Dreher Park, opened to members Monday, Oct. 19.

It is the 21st club run by Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County, and it is open to children and teens ages 6 to 18. The nonprofit announced the opening on its website.

What sets it apart is a Workforce Readiness Teen Center. The nonprofit said the center is built to help teens plan for life after high school, “whether members are headed to college, pursuing a skilled trade, enlisting in the military, or entering the workforce directly.”

The grand opening

The nonprofit held a grand opening with a ribbon cutting Oct. 27, according to its post on the celebration. The speakers were:

  • Jaene Miranda, the organization’s president and CEO, who opened the event
  • West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James
  • Board Chair Kim Fonseca
  • Club alumni Kaleb and Kelvin Rolle

The Dimension 20 Choir from the organization’s Forest Hill High School club performed. The program honored Julie and Mike Connors, the philanthropists whose names the club carries.

Fees for the break programs and transportation are extra. The club says scholarships are available and “no child is ever turned away due to an inability to pay a fee.”

The building includes:

  • a gymnasium and a dance studio
  • a learning center, a computer lab and a science lab
  • a music room and an arts and crafts center
  • a game room and a teen center
  • a canteen and dining area

Programs cover career readiness, financial literacy, homework help, tutoring with certified teachers, STEM and robotics, sports and the arts, the club said.

The cost

The building is about 31,000 square feet. That figure comes from a funding request to the Florida Senate, filed in December 2025 under state Sen. Mack Bernard. The request put the total project cost at $18 million. It listed $16.5 million from other sources and asked the state for $1.5 million to finish construction. The Senate’s copy of the request is marked “Vetoed.”

The request said the club would serve 800 young people. It said the location lets the organization reach youth in a low-income area, “particularly teens who have few, if any, options for their out-of-school time.”
