The Veterans Day Parade runs 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday on Clematis Street, with free garage parking. City Hall and the library close Wednesday, but trash runs as normal.
The Palm Beach County Veterans Parade marches down Clematis Street from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8. Admission is free. The West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority lists the parade on its event page.
Veterans Day itself is Wednesday, Nov. 11. City Hall and the Mandel Public Library close that day. Trash pickup does not change.
What the parade includes
The Downtown Development Authority said the parade honors veterans and active military personnel. It lists:
- marching groups
- floats
- special appearances
Spectators can watch from the sidewalks along Clematis Street. Free parking will be available from noon to 5 p.m. at “select downtown garages,” the authority said. It did not name the garages.
Streets that close Sunday
The city’s Road and Dock report for Nov. 5 lists these closures for the parade:
- Clematis Street, Rosemary Avenue to South Flagler Drive: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Clematis Street, Tamarind Avenue to Rosemary Avenue: also closed. The hours the city printed for this block (“8 p.m. until 3 p.m.”) appear to be a typo, so plan for an early closure.
The full list of this week’s closures, including the GreenMarket on Saturday, is on our road construction and closures page.
What closes Wednesday, Nov. 11
The city posted its Veterans Day schedule on its news releases page:
| Service | Wednesday, Nov. 11 | Reopens Thursday, Nov. 12 |
|---|---|---|
| City Hall | Closed | 8 a.m. |
| Mandel Public Library | Closed | 9:30 a.m. |
| Grassy Waters Preserve Nature Center | Closed | 8 a.m. (see below) |
| Trash collection | Normal schedule | Normal schedule |
Grassy Waters is already closed after the Nov. 1-2 flooding. The city said this week that the nature center and all of its trails stay closed “until further notice.” The 8 a.m. Thursday reopening in the holiday notice applies only if that flood closure has been lifted by then.
What it means for you
- Going to the parade? Get downtown before 2 p.m. Use the free garage parking from noon and expect Clematis Street to be closed to cars from 11 a.m.
- Need City Hall or the library? Go Tuesday, Nov. 10, or wait until Thursday, Nov. 12.
- Trash day on Wednesday? Put your carts out as usual. The city said collection continues on a normal schedule. Our trash and recycling guide has the full holiday list.
- Still have flood debris or a missed pickup? The city said residents whose garbage, bulk or yard waste was missed during the flooding should put the extra bagged garbage, bulk items and vegetation out on their next scheduled pickup day. Until then, keep it off the right-of-way so it does not block storm drains. Our record rainfall story has the rest of the city’s flood updates.
- Flooding on your street? The city’s flooding line is 561-822-2222.
